About Us

How We're Helping

While our primary focus is Children's literacy, reading and writing skills. We are a holistic entity which addresses the whole family and community.

We are a community-based organization focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place.

Weather it's reading skills or food sovereignty, with the help of our tireless staff, we organize Book Fairs, exciting community-building events, and in-depth training sessions for our volunteers.

The Importance of Reading

Through our partnerships we are able to present our children with the tools needed to become and maintain a high level of literacy.

Weather it’s home schools or traditional learning. We must give our children every avenue to become successful, productive citizens.

If you did nothing more to support your child's education than to read aloud to him every single day from birth, that would be enough.

It would be enough because he would love stories and understand that there is power and magic in the written word.

It would be enough because it would be sparking his imagination at every turn, inspiring him to imagine what might be possible.

It would be enough because he would be absorbing language - the rhythm of it, the way the words work together to create meaning and, of course, the words themselves.

It would be enough because all of this would be creating connections in the child's brain which would otherwise not exist. And the result would be that, when he's old enough, your child would seek out books for himself and would continue to learn.

A Library of My Own

One of our new projects is called A Library of My Own which is a program to reinforce reading and writing skills.

At A Library of My Own we feel that every child should have access to information and the skills to relay said information effectively. The children will build their own book cases that are theirs to take home.

Each month the children will read a book and write a report on it's contents.

The reports will be graded  and given points on  the written reports.

The children can save the points and redeem them at local retailers for merchandise.

Academic Sports Summer Camp

Changing Lives MD is now a part of an Academic Sports Summer Camp. We are now in the process of working out the nuts and bolts of it all.

Our camp's main focus will be on academics.

Literacy will always be at the forefront of all we do.

Our camp will have the  facilities to accommodate any activities our children may want to participate in. Basketball is our year round sport.

Healthy food choices will be a main part of our program. We feel that a child cannot perform to his/her optimum ability (in sports or academia) without the proper fuel(food).

Getting Involved

Are you passionate about what we're doing? Let us know! We are always looking for volunteers to help us make our vision a reality. We'll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you. We're excited to have you join us.

We seek like minded volunteers who may need community service hours.
